This is a Portfolio Building Workshop.

Join esteemed photographer Andy Hornby for an immersive portrait photography workshop in the vibrant city of Portsmouth. This exclusive opportunity will allow you to delve into the art of capturing stunning portraits, harnessing the beauty of natural light and the captivating effects of LED lighting once the sun sets. Throughout the workshop, you'll have the privilege of working with the talented model JenniJJ, bringing your creative vision to life through a series of breathtaking images.

Under Andy Hornby's expert guidance, you'll discover the secrets to creating portraits that capture the essence and personality of your subject. From mastering composition and framing to understanding the nuances of posing and expression, you'll gain invaluable insights that will elevate your portrait photography to new heights.

The workshop will commence in the gentle embrace of natural light, where you'll learn how to harness its beauty to create timeless and authentic portraits. Andy will share his expertise on finding the optimal lighting conditions, using reflectors and diffusers to enhance and shape light, and effectively directing your model to create compelling and evocative images.

As the sun begins to set, the workshop will transition into an exploration of LED lighting techniques. This segment will unlock a realm of creativity, as you learn to manipulate artificial light sources to add drama, depth, and a touch of magic to your portraits. Andy will guide you through the technical aspects of using LED lights, such as controlling color temperature, adjusting intensity, and creating captivating lighting setups that enhance the mood and narrative of your images.

This is going to be a very popular Workshop and I imagine tickets will sell fast.

What's included;

  • Shooting - how to get the right exposure in different shooting environments. How to shoot in manual! How to set your composition to include the essentials and leave out the non-essentials.
  • Tuition and guidance provided throughout the event, on both a one to one and group basis, to maximise your potential. In other words, there is something for everyone to be able to do based on their respective skill level. Enough to help the newer photographers without boring the more experienced ones...:)
  • Throughout the workshop, Andy will CC on your images.
  • You leave with full understanding of the settings used and have the ability to replicate the same elsewhere.

Essential Gear;

  • Camera and lenses - doesn't matter what you have. I can work with most camera manufacturers (I use Canon and Sony - So I will know more about them). If you have a portrait lens (something from 50mm, 70mm up to 200mm), that would be beneficial. But a wide angle may offer something different.

Non Essential Gear;

  • Reflectors - I will be bringing a couple, so don't feel light you have to. But if you have any, please bring them along.
  • Please bring all of the other gear you have including monopods, tripods etc. Also make sure to charge all of your gear 100% prior to the shoot so you don't end up running out. Make sure to clear your memory cards and have at least 16GB available to shoot with. I personally recommend even more if you can. I will encourage you to shoot in RAW so having the appropriate amount of memory is very important.

Parking is NOT free. There are a few car parks local to the city centre and some on street paid parking.

Need to find Hotel or AirBnB accommodation nearby
